A Sexual Health Specialist is the medical specialist you should consult if you have any significant problem with your genital area.Q: Why should I see a specialist?A: Sexual Health Specialists are medical specialists with a minimum of 5 years post graduate training (after completing a 6 year medical degree) in the diagnosis and management of sexually transmissible infections, HIV/AIDS, genital dermatology, general sexual and reproductive health and sexual assault medicine. Sexual Health Specialists are involved not only in general sexual health, but work in close affiliation with Gynecologists, Urologists, Dermatologists and Infectious diseases Specialists.Q: Do you see both men and women?A: Yes.Q: Do I need a GPs referral?A: We are happy to see patients without a referral. However in order to claim from your health insurer you may require a letter of referral from your GP.Q: Is this service covered by Health Insurance?A: Yes. Sexual health receives part cover from Health Insurance Providers. Cover may depend on your policy.Q: Is there a free service?A: There will be a free service provided by your local sexual health clinic. This is usually based at your local hospital or DHB.Q: What does this service cost?A: Charges vary according to the length of consultation and complexity of conditions.A standard consultation is $205 and takes approximately 40 minutes to 1 hour. Minor procedures, dispensed medicines, and consumables carry an additional charge. |
